What’s on in Blackpool 2024

Blackpool: stalwart of the British coastal holiday, and home to two of our Haven parks – Marton Mere and Cala Gran

Bustling Blackpool is home to a plethora of annual events, with attractions like Blackpool Pleasure Beach, Blackpool Tower and Blackpool Zoo arranging lots of fun things to do throughout the year. But Blackpool is also ideally located to access some of the brilliant events on offer in wider Lancashire, and even the southern Lake District, which is close by. 

So without further ado, here’s a look at all of the brilliant events you can look forward to when you stay with us in Blackpool in 2024.

Spooky Tours and History Tours 

When: various regular tours 

Where: Samlesbury Hall, Preston New Road 

Hop in the car and visit a piece of Lancashire history less than half-an-hour’s drive away in Samlesbury Hall. A Tudor-style property packed with history, and – if you believe the stories – ghosts, it also has an on-site café, waffle house and adventure playground. Explore it in detail with one of the regularly scheduled guided tours.   

Parkrun 

When: Every Saturday at 9am 

Where: Stanley Park, West Park Drive, Blackpool, and Outer Promenade, The Esplanade, Fleetwood. 

Everyone is welcome at the Blackpool and Fleetwood parkrun. This inclusive event is suitable for everyone, regardless of how fast you are. Buggies and dogs are also welcome! The 5k event happens on a weekly basis and is FREE to enter. Just head to parkrun UK’s website to register and get your barcode for the event.

Lytham Hall Classic & Performance Motor Show 

When: May 19, 2024 

Where: Lytham Hall, Lytham 

Interested in horsepower, history and Georgian halls? This is definitely the place for you! Set on the manicured lawns of Grade-I listed Lytham Hall, just outside Blackpool, this huge display of motors spans classic cars, 4x4s and even military vehicles. There are also stalls, car club stands, and entry includes access to the historic hall – and its tea room – as well as the 78-acre park.

Lytham Festival 

When: 3-7 July

Where: Lytham Green, Lytham 

Just outside of Blackpool is Lytham, whose increasingly popular annual music event is set to become even bigger for 2024! Usually set over five days, the festival attracts music lovers from far and wide with its impressive line-up. While 2024 acts haven’t yet been confirmed, in 2023 the likes of Jamiroquai, George Ezra, Sting, Blondie, Kaiser Chiefs, Def Leppard, Motley Crue and Lionel Richie will be taking to the stage. Sister Act The Musical 

When: July 15-20  

Where: Opera House Winter Gardens, Blackpool 

Based on the ever popular movie that starred Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill, Sister Act The Musical is touring the UK, with a stop off at Blackpool in summer 2024. Mother Superior will be played by Birds of a Feather actress Lesley Joseph.

Blackpool Air Show 

When: 10-11 August

Where: Blackpool Promenade, Blackpool 

Showcasing amazing British aviation, this fantastic free annual weekend event always attracts families. Watch talented pilots take to the skies in a range of flying machines, and you might just catch a display by the world-famous Red Arrows, too. 

The British Country Music Festival 

When: August 30-September 1, 2024 

Where: Winter Gardens, Blackpool 

Launched in 2019, this independent festival celebrates country-style songwriters from across the UK and Ireland in an indoor musical celebration. Covering Americana, roots, blues and British indie-folk, it’s an eclectic and welcoming scene.

Blackpool Illuminations 

When: 1 September 2024-January 2025 

Where: Blackpool Promenade 

It’s hard to picture Blackpool without the shining lights of its famous illuminations, available to explore and wonder at from autumn into winter. A highlight must be the dutifully lit-up, train-shaped tram – always popular with the youngest visitors! Grab a portion of fish and chips and take a stroll, or drive, through the electrifying display.

The Open Worlds 

When: October 26-27 

Where: Blackpool Tower Ballroom 

This professional ballroom and Latin American dance competition sees dancers from around the world compete in a range of categories. But don’t worry, you won’t need your Salsa shoes to spectate – just your ticket!
